Anil Trigunayat is a distinguished former member of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) with over three decades of diplomatic experience. During his illustrious career, he served in Indian diplomatic missions across Côte d’Ivoire, Bangladesh, Mongolia, United States, Russia, Sweden, Nigeria, Libya, Jordan, and Malta. He held several key positions in the Ministry of External Affairs, including Director General and Joint Secretary for the Gulf and Haj Divisions, and later served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Moscow in the rank of Ambassador. Prior to his retirement in 2016, he served as Ambassador of India to Jordan, besides being a High Commissioner to Malta.
A postgraduate in Physics, he also studied Russian history, culture, and language at Jawaharlal Nehru University and conducted research on WTO and Regional Trading Blocs as a Visiting Fellow at Oxford University. He is currently a Distinguished Fellow at the Vivekananda International Foundation and heads its West Asia Experts Group. He is also a Distinguished Fellow with the military think tank United Services Institution of India.
