Ganbold Gonchig is a retired Mongolian diplomat with an abiding interest in translation. A former adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister of his country, Gonchig was posted in India for almost 13 years since joining the Mongolian foreign services in 1981. Of these stints, he was Ambassador in New Delhi for over six years beginning July 2015. He has held several key diplomatic positions in his country, the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
Among the books he has translated into Mongolian includes Chinggis Khan and Making of the Modern World, History of Money, both by Jack Weatherford; State-Building: Governance and World Order in the 21st Century by Francis Fukuyama; Modi Effect by Lance Price, and the Making of Donal Trump by David Cay Johnston. Mitch Albom’s Tuesdays with Morrie, and Five Persons to meet in Heaven are some of his popular translations. He has also translated A History of Knowledge (Charles Van Doren) and China and Russia Four Centuries of Conflicts and Concords by the Sinologist Philip Snow.
Since 1985, he had spent quality time in pursuing his academic interest in International Relations and Diplomacy from London, Munich, Hawaii and Moscow.
Ganbold speaks Russian, English and Hindi besides Mongolian.
