Branimir Farkaš was born on May 16, 1970, in Zagreb, Croatia. He graduated from the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb, completed the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, and studied film and television directing at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb.
From 1989 to 2024, he worked for Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT). During the Croatian War of Independence, he reported from the field, and in the years that followed he became a leading foreign affairs correspondent, editor, and anchor of the national TV news, as well as a respected foreign policy commentator. He is the author of four documentary films and several thousand reports, including more than 700 from around 50 countries worldwide. For over 20 years, he closely followed and reported on the landmark trials of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). Throughout his career, he has interviewed numerous prominent Croatian and international statesmen.
Between 2001 and 2004, he served in diplomacy during a mandate in India. He is also the author of three plays, among which Iskrica (“The Spark”) has been successfully performed across Croatia since 2019.
In addition to his journalistic and literary work, Farkaš is active in music. Together with his son Roko, he performs in the original rock band Nasljednici (“The Heirs”), which regularly held concerts in Zagreb and has released several singles for Croatia Records.
In 2024, he left journalism and returned to diplomacy as Deputy Ambassador and Political Advisor at the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in New Delhi.
Branimir Farkaš is a distinguished journalist, diplomat, writer, produced playwright, and musician. He is a member of the Croatian Journalists’ Association, the Croatian Composers’ Society, and the Croatian Writers’ Association.
He is married and the father of three children. His eldest daughter passed away in 2017 at the age of 21.
